Neurotoxins are purified proteins that are injected into facial muscles for cosmetic purposes. They work by blocking the nerve signals that cause the muscles to contract. These types of wrinkles are called dynamic wrinkles and they occur from facial muscle movement. When neurotoxins are used continuously and over time, they can improve the look of both superficial and deep wrinkles. Common types of wrinkles that tox can improve include, but are not limited to: frown lines, crow’s feet, jowls, and forehead lines. Neurotoxin injections are a non-surgical treatment meaning no cutting or incisions are involved.

The injections are relatively quick and easy, taking only a few minutes. Depending on amount of units injected, the effects typically last for 3-6 months. Neurotoxin injections are a safe and effective temporary treatment and been used for many years. Some of the potential side effects include bruising, redness, and swelling at the injection site. More serious side effects, such as droopy eyelids and difficulty blinking, are rare.
